The 2010 Green Books Campaign - now on Facebook and twitter!

The 2010 Green Books Campaign is not that far away! In 18 days, on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 1:00 PM Eastern Time 200 bloggers will take a stand to support books printed on environmental paper by simultaneously publishing reviews of 200 such books.

Launched in 2009 by Eco-Libris, the Green Books Campaign is looking to promote books printed on environmental paper by turning a spotlight on books that are already printed this way.
Our goal is to raise book buyers' awareness and create a discussion on the ways books should be printed, using the power of the Internet and social media to create a buzz and get the word out on the campaign
.

We want it to be an interactive discussion and therefore we have a new Facebook page, where where you can follow news and updates on the campaign in the upcoming 18 days. You're also welcome to add your thoughts, ideas and questions there! The campaign is now also on Twitter and you can follow it at @greenbooks2010.

And if you want to join the green celebration, we still have room for 5 more bloggers!
We still have 50 books you can choose from for review at http://www.ecolibris.net/greenbookscampaign_list.pdf

Help SHI win up to $1 million for with just a few clicks on FaceBook!

Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) are one of our three planting partners that does an important work in Central America, providing farming families there with the training and tools to overcome poverty while restoring our planet''s tropical forests.

And now you can help them to win up to $1 million in a Facebook-based contest of Chase Community Giving. It's really simple - just a couple of clicks and it can really help this great organization, so I hope you'll find the time and vote for them. And don't forget tomorrow is the last day you can vote!

How do you do it and how important is it to SHI? you can read about it in the message below sent from Florence Reed, the founder and president of SHI:

A minute or two of your time might just make the difference for Sustainable Harvest International in winning up to $1 million in the Facebook-based Chase Community Giving Contest. And we could really use this miracle right now as several of our biggest donors find that they cannot donate what we expected from them this month.

Facebook users can cast a vote - no later than December 11th - for Sustainable Harvest International as we compete for the Chase prize.

If you’re not already on Facebook, this might be a good time to join or you can forward this email to your friends who might be on FaceBook. If you are already a member, please take a few seconds to cast your vote for Sustainable Harvest International in the Chase Community Giving Contest on Facebook!

Quick and easy steps to casting your vote for Sustainable Harvest International:
1. Visit the <<Chase Community Giving>> site ( http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/charities/707760)

2. Search for “Sustainable Harvest International.”

3. Sign-in to your Facebook account.

4. Click “Allow.”

5. Click the “Vote for Charity” button.

6. Become a fan.

7. Post to your profile

Once you’ve cast your vote, be sure to tell your friends to do the same! The only way for us to win is if all of you vote for us and get a number of your friends to vote for us and tell their friends

In the Chase Contest, the nonprofit with the most votes by December 11th wins $1 million, the top five runners-up win $100,000, and the top 100 thereafter win $25,000! Together we have a real chance to add needed support to our environmental and humanitarian projects abroad in Central America. Thank you for your time and caring!

Thanks,
Flo

We did it! Our Facebook community has grown to over 1,000 members!

We are very happy to announce that we ended a very successful green campaign on Facebook.

The campaign that took place on April focused on our Facebook group and included tree planting, giveaway of green books and an effort to increase our Facebook group to 1000 members.

And we did it! On April 30 we reached our goal and on May 1, we had 1036 members! Now, we're going to plant a tree on behalf of all the 455 new members that joined our group on April, so all together we'll have 455 new trees to be planted with our planting partner AIR in Guatemala.

So it's time to say thank you to all the participants in our campaign - to the new members, to the existing members that encouraged their friends to join, to friends who helped us to spread the word and last but not least - to all of our partners that donated great books for the giveaways we had during the campaign. THANK YOU ALL!

Our work on Facebook though has not ended and we'll continue to provide our growing community with information and updates on our work and quest to make reading more sustainable, photos from the planting areas of course and special offers from our partners.

Raz @ Eco-Libris

Our Facebook campaign is ending today and we're 5 members short of our 1000 members goal!

Today is the last day to our April green campaign on our Facebook group and we're almost meeting our goal of having 1,000 members by the end of April!

Right now we have 995 members and a little bit more than 10 hours until the end of the day (EST), so we can definitely do it!!

Here's what we had so far this month:

- We added so far 414 new members to the group (
We started with 581 members on April 1)
- We're planting a new tree for each new member until we reach the 1000th member, so we're having so far 414 new trees that will be planted with our planting partners on behalf of the new members.
- We had giveaways of 26 books of authors and publishers we work with , including
Green Beginning by Avrim and Vicki Topel, Sammy and Sue Go Green Too! by Suzanne Corso, Little Green Books (Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing), The Barefoot Book of Earth Tales by Dawn Casey and Gardening Eden by Michael Abbaté

So we're now on the last day and we hope to finish this green celebration with at least 5 more new members and 5 new trees that will be planted on their behalf.

And in celebration of the successful ending of this campaign, we're giving away today a very special gift - a new book by author Fiona Robyn that is only due to be published (by Snowbooks) on August 2009!

The author, who is collaborating with Eco-Libris, donated one copy of "
The Blue Handbag", which will also be signed by her!

Here are some more details on the book:

After forty years of happy marriage, Leonard thought he knew his wife Rose as well as he knew himself. It's only after her sudden death that he finds her old handbag, which contains a mystery he can't ignore. Accompanied by Lily, his wife's childhood friend, Leonard becomes a reluctant detective as his whole life starts to unravel... 'The Blue Handbag' is steeped in a quiet poetry which reminds us to take pleasure from the ordinary details of life - reading stories to our children, sharing silence with our friend over a beer, enjoying the plants Leonard tends for a living - and never to take anything for granted.

You can read more about it at www.fionarobyn.com/thebluehandbag.htm.

Thanks again to all the participants in our campaign and all of our supporters and fans that helped us running this campaign.

Yours,
Raz @ Eco-Libris

Join our Facebook group Earth Day celebration with green books giveaways and tree planting!

Earth Day is just around the corner (April 22) and Eco-Libris has a busy month coming - from a celebration of green reading with the Chicago Bulls to an Earth Day campaign with Raincoast Books in Canadian Bookstores and a couple of new collaborations with publishers, including Barefoot Books, Beaufort Books and Bookhouse Publishing (check out our updates here for more information).

As busy as this month is we don't want to forget it's all about the celebration of Earth Day. This Earth day we have many green books to give away and many trees to plant. And we wish to celebrate it with as many friends as possible! We set up a goal of increasing our number of Facebook group members to at least 1,000 members by the end of the month.

We started with 581 members on April 1 and already we have 96 new members which brings us to 677 members all together! And we're not counting only new members, we're counting trees! For every new member (until we reach the 1000th member) Eco-Libris will plant a new tree with our planting partners!

And we also have great green books to give away! Since we needed at the beginning at least 14 new members a day, we decided to have a raffle of a new book each day we'll meet this goal. We're giving away great green books of an author or publisher that works with Eco-Libris! We have great books waiting for you, such as:

- Green Beginning by Avrim and Vicki Topel
- Sammy and Sue Go Green Too! by Suzanne Corso
- Little Green Books (Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing)
- The Barefoot Book of Earth Tales by Dawn Casey
- Gardening Eden by Michael Abbaté

And more! We'll add more information about all of the books on our wall during this month, so stay tuned and check out our group (and join it if you haven't done it yet :-) at http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/wall.php?id=4590684259

With your assistance by April 30, we'll succeed to increase our community to (at least) 1,000 members and plant hundreds of new trees!

Happy and Green April!
