The paperless future, or where's the paper when you really need it?

This is a very funny TV spot from France taking up the debate between 'all digital' and the die-hard defenders of paper. I received it from of my students and wanted to share with you all:

A great video on the future of publishing

Here's a clever video prepared by the UK branch of Dorling Kindersley Books and produced by Khaki Films. We like it and we hope that you'll enjoy it as well:

Here are some more details about it from its YouTube's page:
This video was prepared by the UK branch of Dorling Kindersley Books and produced by Khaki Films (http://www.thekhakigroup.com/). Originally meant solely for a DK sales conference, the video was such a hit internally that it is now being shared externally. We hope you enjoy it (and make sure you watch it up to at least the halfway point, there's a surprise!).

Read an interview with the creator of the video on the Penguin Blog: http://bit.ly/futureofpublishing. The clip was inspired by a video created by an Argentinean agency, Savaglio/TBWA entitled Truth:

The Kindle-book battle: The Green Apple (funny!) version

Remember the imaginary battle David Pouge presented between the Kindle and paper books? Now the San Francisco bookstore, Green Apple Books, show their own version for this battle and it's even funnier!

The Green Apple presents 10 rounds between “The Book” and the Kindle in what they describe as a smack-down of the most literary sort (and thanks to Boing Boing for the link!).

They published already 3 rounds (every day there's a new video) on their blog. The first and the second episodes were funny but I found the third episode ("sharing") hilarious so here it is:

Kudos to Green Apple Books for this great video series! No matter if you agree with the results of their smack-down or not, I'm sure you'll agree that it's time for some more refreshing points of view, such the ones we have here, in this interesting and growing debate.

And don't forget to check Green Apple's blog for the next seven rounds!

Most Terrifying Video You'll Ever See

If you're still looking for a good reason to take action and go green, sit down and watch this interesting video from YouTube (seen until now by 3,129,655 viewers), with the scary name 'Most Terrifying Video You'll Ever See' (no worries, there are no difficult images, only talking..):

From Treehugger.com I learned that this guy is a high school science teacher named Greg Craven, set up in his home with a whiteboard and a felt-tipped marker. If you want to see more of his videos (and I understand this video is part of a series with over 40 videos in it), please check Greg's YouTube account.

Do December's Green Thing

Yesterday I received an email from the people behind the great site 'Do The Green Thing' reminding me of their green thing of December - buy an old thing, not a new thing.

They explain on their website that "new things are the fanciest and most specced-up things and have the almost irresistible appeal of being the latest things. But manufacturing a new thing uses resources and energy, all of which creates CO2, so instead of buying a new thing, buy an old thing. Old things save us CO2 and come with character, romance, mystery and history all included as standard."

We introducded Do the Green Thing
on November, when their recommendation was to turn your lights off early and have some fun in the dark. Their humor is funny as always as you can see from this video:

Check out their website for more interesting green materials (including great videos) and don't forget to look for an old thing or two!

This is the story of stuff

A friend sent me this week a great video I wanted to share with you - 'The Story of Stuff with Annie Leonard'.

This short video comes from the talented producers of "The Meatrix" and "Grocery Store Wars". It is an interesting short movie (about 20 minutes) that presents the big picture of how production and consumption processes are directly related to the social and environmental crises of our times.

Here's the description of 'The Story of Stuff' from its website:

From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns.

The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

I really liked it. I hope you enjoy it as well!

Here it one of the video's teasers:
